CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is a practical and structured approach that explores how thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence one another. It can help you recognise unhelpful patterns, develop effective coping strategies and make manageable changes in everyday life. We have two therapists offering CBT: Bobby, who works from the Raylor Centre, and Nigel, who is based at our Bootham office. Both provide a supportive, collaborative space, tailoring sessions to your needs, goals and circumstances while helping you build skills that can support lasting change.

How CBT can help

CBT can help a client understand how their thoughts, emotions and behaviours influence one another. By identifying unhelpful patterns, they can learn practical ways to respond differently and feel more in control.

It can be particularly helpful with:

  • Anxiety, panic and persistent worry
  • Low mood and depression
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anger
  • Phobias and avoidance
  • Obsessive or repetitive thinking
  • Difficult habits and coping behaviours

CBT is usually structured, collaborative and focused on developing practical skills clients can continue using beyond therapy.
