YOU matter! Your thoughts, feelings and experiences are valid, all of them! I offer a space where you can be you, where you can be seen and heard without judgement.
As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I work with you as an equal, offering respect, empathy and endeavouring to understand you and your experiences as our relationship develops. I aim to build your trust by respecting your voice, as we explore the things that may have caused you to feel stuck, uncomfortable, confused or discouraged.
I have a particular interest in helping people understand and learn to accept who they are and to value themselves, helping them to identify thoughts and behaviours that keep them stuck and supporting them as they find new ways forward.
At the centre of my work is a deep belief in each person’s capacity to grow, heal and begin to value themselves with the support of a genuine, empathic therapeutic relationship.

I have been training and counselling for 5 years and this has been working with both adults, Children and Young people.
I have in-depth training and experience in working with young people aged 11–18. With over twenty years’ experience in education, where building relationships and pastoral care of young people was an integral part of my career.
My experience outside of counselling also includes Psychoeducation for adults and young people, running both groups and workshops to help people understand and manage Mental Health and well-being.
This has included Peer support groups at York MIND and Mental Health Workshops at Ron Dearing in Hull.
I work openly and flexibly, adapting to what each client needs. I always aim to work in a way that suits the individual and reviewing the way we are connecting and working together will be an integral part of the process. Exploring areas such as pace of our work, the use of questions, the amount of challenge, connection to the process and the use of other helpful therapeutic tools if appropriate.
Above all I value working with honesty and integrity.
Having worked with young people throughout my previous career I understand the pressures young people face and the many ways they may struggle to express what is going on internally.
I feel that I can connect and relate to young people building a relationship of honesty and equality. Working with young men is an area I am particularly interested in, especially in the times we live in, ensuring young men get support early is key to preventing long-term patterns of thought and behaviour that can lead to distress and mental health difficulties.
While many young people may understand themselves and are able to talk openly about their experiences, I often find that some young people struggle with this.
As part of my practice with young people, I work creatively and flexibly, offering alternative ways to communicate when words are difficult. I also work supportively with parents and carers, while holding firm to a young person’s right to a confidential space.
I also strictly adhere to guidelines around the safeguarding of Young people.
